It was built for Xu Guo, a great scholar in the Ming Dynasty. It is a rare large-scale stone archway in China and the only existing eight-legged archway in the country. It is carved from large stones weighing four or five tons. This archway has three unique features: the shape of a mouth, which is unique among all archways; the second unique feature is that the arch was erected before Xu Guo was alive; and the third unique feature is the imitation of wooden tenons on the stone. There are eight pillars on all sides of the archway, and 12 stone lions of different shapes are located close to the eight pillars. It is magnificent and highlights the exquisite skills of Huizhou stone carving.
