Sixi is one of the villages in the Sixi Yancun Scenic Area. It has preserved many mansions and courtyards of Huizhou merchants in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Among them, the rare “Hundred Life Picture” composed of 96 “Shou” characters in different fonts in the Baishou Flower Hall, and the Jingxu Hall, the main location of the 1987 version of “Liao Zhai”, are not to be missed. There is a wooden covered bridge at the entrance of the village called “Tongji Bridge”. Not far into the village, after passing Zhenyuantang, we came to Baishouhua Hall. Inside the house, there are 96 Chinese characters for “longevity” in different fonts engraved on the panes of 12 floor-to-ceiling windows. Carvings of a hundred years of longevity on this scale are very rare among the people and are worth seeing. The corbels under the eaves are not the common lions and unicorns, but the elegant moonlight of the lotus pond, egrets stretching out their beaks to catch fish, blooming lotus flowers, and plump lotus roots, which are unique. The most magnificent and famous commercial house in the village is the “Jingxutang” house, which consists of a courtyard, a main hall, a back hall, a flower hall, a kitchen and a garden. It is worth mentioning that Jingxu Hall is the main filming location of “Liao Zhai”. Fans of the drama can reminisce about the classic scenes in the drama here.
