Shuixin Pavilion is located to the north of the East Palace of the Summer Resort. It is an important passage between the palace area and the lake area. It is the eighth scene in the “Thirty-six Scenes of Qianlong”. The pavilion is built between Xiahu Lake and Yinhu Lake, with a bridge across the water. There are three pavilions on the upper side. There are square pavilions with double eaves and four corners in the north and south, and there are three deep waterside pavilions with double eaves in the middle. The pavilion is in the water, with vast spaces on both sides, rippling blue waves, and a picture-perfect scene in all directions. It truly has the poetic meaning of “flying angles, high peaks, bright holes with empty eaves, skylight above and below, and shadows falling into the sky.” There are eight water gates, one on each side of the six in the middle, commonly known as the “eight-hole gate”, used to control the water level.
