Shuanglin Town has a long history and is one of the famous ancient towns in Jiangnan Water Town. According to the excavation and research of the nearby ancient cultural sites of Hongcheng and Huacheng, there were ancestors living here as early as three or four thousand years ago; during the Han and Tang Dynasties, it became a village named Donglin; during the Southern Song Dynasty, northern merchants moved south with the Song Dynasty. Many people live here, so it is also called Shanglin. In the third year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1405), it merged with Xilin Village in Xierli and was renamed Shuanglin Town, which is still used today.
