Shanjiang Miao Village, also known as General Military Camp, is a small village with a strong flavor of Miao life. The Miao language calls Shanjiang “Bagu”, which means toad cave. Because there is a cave next to the village with many toads, it got its name.
Calling Shanjiang the General Barracks comes from the fact that the Qing Dynasty stationed troops here and set up the General Barracks when they suppressed the Miao uprising. Later, after liberation, a Shanjiang reservoir was built on the northwest mountain of the village. The Miao village was short of water, and after the reservoir was built, there was a flood of people watching. People called “Bagu” Shanjiang. Over time, the name of the administrative district was changed to “Shanjiang”.
Shanjiang still retains the ancient Miao customs. The bright and eye-catching Miao costumes, the unique barrage wine, the unique drums, road songs, and sideshows will make you feel refreshed and mesmerized; there is also the moon dancing and flower dancing on the traditional festival “April 8th” , the folk song duet of “June 6th” will make your heart flutter and leave you breathless.
