“Seeing Pingyao Again” tells a story about blood inheritance and endless life: At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Zhao Yishuo, the owner of a Pingyao City ticket office, paid off all his family property and used the lives of himself and 232 bodyguards to protect the owner of the semicolon king from Tsarist Russia. A bloodline.
“Seeing Pingyao Again” uses a lot of artistic vocabulary, drama, dance, video, music… to create a strange space, hoping that the audience can hallucinate and travel back a hundred years ago. In one unrelated scene after another, we pick up fragments of our ancestors’ lives: Pingyao City in the late Qing Dynasty, the Escort Bureau, the Zhao Family Courtyard, the market, the South Gate Square… From the numerous fragments, we can glimpse the beginning of the story.
