Qianxi Temple is the first large cave at the northern end of Longmen West Mountain. It is more than nine meters high and nine meters wide, and nearly seven meters deep. It was built in the early Tang Dynasty more than 1,300 years ago. The caisson on the top of the cave is a large lotus with shallow carvings. The main Buddha, Amitabha, is sitting on the Sumeru Platform. He has a plump face and bulging chest. His clothes hang down in front of him. All parts of his body are well-proportioned and his expression is wise. The whole posture gives people a sense of tranquility and kindness. On the left side of the main Buddha is the eldest disciple Kassapa, and on the right side is the junior disciple Ananda. Next to the two disciples are Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva respectively. In particular, the Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva on the south wall has a plump and honest appearance and a quiet demeanor. A 1:1 replica is on display in the Palace Museum. Amitabha Buddha and the two Bodhisattvas on both sides are collectively known as the Three Saints of the West, that is, the three saints in charge of the Western Paradise, and are the objects of the Pure Land Sect of Buddhism.
