Known as the “Moulin Rouge of China”, it was first built in the 42nd year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (AD 1703). Historically, it was a famous place for officials and gentry to host concierges, merchants to relax, and for performances, banquets and dances.
The grand theater is naturally enclosed on one side by the Nine Dragon Wall and becomes a relatively independent courtyard, consisting of a closed performance hall, a bar area, a theater gallery, and the Southeast Sea Guest House. On a rock in the west of the courtyard is the name of the “Grand Theater” written by Qi Gong, a master of calligraphy during his lifetime. Here, there is a program at noon and evening. You can enjoy eight bowls and eight dishes of Shanxi merchants, eighteen special noodles and other flavored snacks, while enjoying the Shanxi Bangzi Zuoquan Xiaohua Opera for fun, Jinzhong Yangko and Shanxi two-person stage for fun, and throwing hydrangeas to worship the heaven and earth. Waiting for the special performance of “Dusty Drops” will be a feast for the mouth and eyes.
