Pianshi Shanfang is also known as Shuanghuai Garden. The garden is famous for its lake stones. It is the only surviving copy of Shi Tao, a great painter in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Shi Tao, whose original name was Zhu Ruoji, was an outstanding great painter in my country in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. He visited famous mountains and rivers throughout his life, “scouring strange peaks to make drafts.” In his later years, he lived in Yangzhou and left behind the only surviving copy of the stacked stones - Pianshi Shanfang. There is a stone house hidden in the rockery, which can be a good place to cool off in summer. The structure of the rockery in the garden is unique, using the processing method of lower house and upper peak. The main peak is stacked on two brick “stone houses”. There are two east and west roads leading to the stone house, the west road crosses the stream, and the east road passes through the cave and enters the stone house. The mountain surrounds the pool. The main peak is steep and vigorous, and the supporting peak is at the southwest turning point. There are hills and cutoffs between the two peaks, which seem to be continuous and non-continuous. It has the momentum of galloping and jumping, which is quite worthy of the painting theory of “the mountain is about to move but grows long”. It complies with the layout principle of “hurrying to the left and slowing to the right, never using two wings” in painting mountains, showing the extraordinary magnanimity of the composition.
