Muta Temple, formerly known as Wanshou Temple, is located on Funan Street, County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province. It is the only remaining pagoda in Zhangye.
The wooden pagoda is one of the Five Elements pagodas in Zhangye City. The tower is 32.8 meters high and has nine levels on eight sides. There is a wooden dragon head on the octagon of each level, with a pearl in its mouth and wind chimes hanging below. The main body of the tower is a wooden structure, the outer eaves are built in the style of a pavilion, and the inner wall of the tower body is made of hollow bricks. Each floor has doors, windows, floor slabs, corridors and the core of the tower. The windows are carved with floral decorations, and the door lintels are inlaid with brick-carved banners. There is not a single nail or rivet in the whole tower, and it is all connected by brackets, beams and columns. They are criss-crossed and connected with each other to form a seamless whole. Climbing the tower allows you to overlook the city of Zhangye, and when the weather is clear, you can also see the beautiful sunset over the city. Every evening, countless swallows circle the tower, which is very spectacular. In addition, the square is also a place for leisure and entertainment for citizens, where you can fully experience Zhangye’s urban culture and citizen life.
