Xianren Cave is one of the famous scenic spots in Lushan Mountain. Located at the southern end of Jinxiu Valley, there is the “Buddha’s Hand Rock” that is as jagged as a hand. The height and depth of the Immortal Cave are about 10 meters each. There is a clear spring dripping from the deep place, which is called “One Drop Spring”. There are stone inscriptions such as “Dongtian Yuye” on the cave wall. There is a stone statue of Lu Dongbin built in the “Chunyang Hall” in the center of the cave. Legend has it that the Sword Immortal among the Eight Immortals practiced Taoism and became an immortal here. Whenever the clouds and mist linger, it suddenly adds a bit of fairy spirit. By the Qing Dynasty, Buddha’s Hand Rock had become a Taoist cave paradise and was renamed Immortal Cave. Mao Zedong’s famous poem “I am born in a fairy cave, and the infinite scenery is on the dangerous peak” makes the fairy cave attraction famous all over the world.
There is a stone moon gate on the left side of the Immortal Cave, with three characters “Xianren Cave” engraved on the lintel. Inside the Moon Gate, there is a huge rock that looks like a toad, which is called “Toad Stone”. There is a tall pine stuck in the stone standing upright, which is called “Stone Pine”. On the stone are engraved the characters “Overlooking the flying clouds” and “Suddenly connected” on the cliff. Under the stone, chaotic clouds are flying across, as if entering a fairyland.
Under the Guanmiao Pavilion on the right side of the Immortal Cave, there is a Youxian Stone that is larger than the Toad Stone and protrudes into the sky. Under the stone, there is an abyss of ten thousand feet, which is extremely dangerous. Here you can have a panoramic view of the Jinxiu Valley. The three words “Wandering to the Immortal Stone” and the poem “There is nowhere to visit the immortal residence in the bamboo forest, hundreds of feet of red cliffs hanging with broken stones, and the traces of the journey have not been eliminated” were written by Qian Quanzhi of Dongguan in the 7th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1528 AD).
