·Lotus Cave is located in the Xishan Grottoes in the Longmen Grottoes Scenic Area. It is named after a large lotus carved in high relief on the top of the cave. The Lotus Cave was probably excavated during the Northern Wei Dynasty.
·As a famous symbol of Buddhism, the lotus is often used in the decoration of grotto roofs. However, large and exquisite high-relief lotus flowers like the ones on the roof of Lotus Cave are rarely seen in Longmen Grottoes. The flying figure around the lotus is light, with a slim waist and long skirt, and a free posture.
·There is a Buddha, two disciples and two Bodhisattvas built on the main wall of the cave. The main image is a standing statue of Sakyamuni. One Buddha and two disciples are standing in a standing posture, which is a statue of Sakyamuni leading his two disciples to preach and lecture. The eldest disciple Kassapa holds a tin staff and is wearing a thick and wide cassock, as if he has traveled a long distance through arduous years. Unfortunately, its head was stolen in the early years and is now in the Guimet Museum in France.
·Bodhisattvas on the left and right wear lotus crowns with graceful postures.
·On the top of the south wall is a small Thousand Buddha with a height of only 2 centimeters, with fine carvings and vivid shapes. In the second niche on the lower floor, there are two exquisite Buddhist stories, with flying sky dancing on them.
·The lintel of the outer door of the cave is carved with flame patterns, and a beast-shaped pavement is carved in the middle. The carving is exquisite. On the upper left is Zhao Yan, the censor who inspected Henan and other places in the Ming Dynasty, inscribed with the word “Yi Jue”.
