Li Zhengmen is the main entrance of the Summer Resort and the beginning of the central axis of the main palace. Built in the 19th reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1754), it is the first scene in the “Thirty-six Scenes of Qianlong”. The three characters “Lizhengmen” are engraved on the forehead of the door in five Chinese, Manchu, Tibetan, Uyghur and Mongolian characters, which means “the sun and the moon are as beautiful as the sky” in the Book of Changes. It symbolizes the close unity and peace among the various ethnic groups of our motherland.
