The Chiang Kai-shek Villa in Luoyang is located on the east side of the Xiangshan Temple in the Longmen Grottoes Scenic Area. In 1936, to celebrate Chiang Kai-shek’s 50th birthday, the local government chose to build a two-story building on the south side of the Xiangshan Temple, which was called the Chiang Kai-shek Villa. On October 29, 1936, he took a train from Xi’an to Luoyang (East Railway Station). He came to Luoyang in the name of “escape from longevity”, but in fact he deployed the “Northwest Suppression of Communists” plan. He celebrated his birthday at the villa on October 31. On his fiftieth birthday, participants included Zhang Xueliang, Yan Xishan, etc. Afterwards, he inspected Luoyang Military Academy, Luoyang Power Plant, and reviewed the heavy artillery unit. He and his wife Song Meiling traveled to Luoyang three times to appease Yan Xishan of Taiyuan, Han Fuju of Jinan, and Fu Zuoyi of Suiyuan who were not direct troops. I left Luoyang for Xi’an in early December and stayed in Luoyang for a total of 36 days, basically staying at the Jiang and Song Villa in Xiangshan Temple.
