In Zhao Wei’s debut work “To Youth”, Ruan Wan said, “My hometown is at the talc whistle behind the Huangguoshu”, which is where she was talking about. Huashishao means “a big flat stone slab” in Buyi language. It got its name because the village is built on flat stone slabs of different sizes.
The village is surrounded by nearly a hundred acres of green forest, and the green trees hide the village. Pedestrians often have to walk into the village to see the houses and courtyards. Entering the village, there are clumps of bamboos in front and behind every house, including thick and strong mottled bamboos. There are also more than ten large umbrella-shaped banyan trees in the village. The largest one covers more than an acre of land. The Huashi Shao people call the banyan tree Huangjue tree, which is the villagers’ protection tree and feng shui tree. It is also the sacred tree worshiped by the Hua Shi Shao people.
There are groups of waterfalls around Huashi Shao. The Luositan Waterfall in front of the village is a unique rocky beach waterfall in the Baishui River. During the peak water season, you can sit in the village and listen to the roar of the waterfall. During the dry season, it becomes a beach for viewing rocks.
