· Located in the western suburbs of Suzhou City, it was built in the Southern Dynasties and has a history of more than 1,400 years. It belongs to the Linji Sect of Zen Buddhism.
·It is famous all over the world for the line “Outside Hanshan Temple outside Gusu City, the midnight bell rings to the passenger ship” in the famous poem “Night Mooring at Maple Bridge” by Zhang Ji of the Tang Dynasty.
·There are many historical sites, including stone inscriptions written by Zhang Jishi, stone statues found in Hanshan and Hanshan, fragments of inscriptions written by Wen Zhengming and Tang Yin, etc.
·It is a famous place for praying. Every year on December 31st, Hanshan Temple holds a New Year’s bell-ringing ceremony, ringing the bell 108 times.
