Wuhan East Lake Moshan Cherry Garden is located at the southern foot of East Lake Moshan Scenic Area, a national 5A scenic spot near East Lake Plum Garden. It covers an area of about 260 acres and has about 10,000 cherry blossom trees. The first batch of cherry blossoms planted in the garden were presented to Deng Yingchao by former Japanese Prime Minister Tanaka Kakuei, who then donated them to Wuhan East Lake. Most of the cherry blossoms were jointly invested and planted by China and Japan in 1998. Wuhan East Lake Moshan Cherry Blossom Garden, Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Garden in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, and Washington, D.C. Cherry Blossom Garden in the United States are known as the three major cherry blossom capitals in the world.
