The Luchena Buddha is shaped in the image of Wu Zetian. It was created in the fourth year of Emperor Xianheng of the Tang Dynasty, that is, AD 672. It is located in Fengxian Temple on the hillside of the southern part of the West Mountain of Longmen in Luoyang. It is 17.14 meters high. It has the highest artistic level and overall design among the Longmen Grottoes. The most rigorous and largest one. The big Lushena stone statue is 17.14 meters high, with a head height of 4 meters and an ear length of 1.9 meters. The Sanskrit word “Lushena Buddha” means universal light and universal brilliance. It originated from the belief in the sun god worshiped in ancient times. Standing close and staring at the Buddha, you will be amazed. The Buddha wears a shoulder-length coat, which wraps around from the right shoulder to the left shoulder, covering the whole body with soothing pleats, elegant and majestic. The statue layout of Fengxian Temple is composed of nine large statues, including one Buddha, two disciples, two Bodhisattvas, two heavenly kings, and two powerful men. In accordance with Buddhist rituals, the artist carved large-scale group statues with different personalities and temperaments, and also showed the inner connection between the group of statues in a harmonious and vivid way.
