The Ashoka Pagoda of Haiqing Temple is located next to the Dacun Reservoir not far from the entrance of Huaguo Mountain. It has been a major attraction in Yuntai Mountain since ancient times. In the Ming Dynasty, it was called “Ancient Pagoda Chuanyun”, and in the Qing Dynasty, it was called “Tower Shadow Reunion”. It was built in the first year of Tiansheng in Song Dynasty (1023). The pagoda is more than 40 meters high, with nine levels and eight sides. It is the tallest and oldest existing pagoda in northern Jiangsu. According to the inscription embedded on the inner wall of the pagoda when it was built, a pagoda was originally built here, and it was known as the second largest pagoda in the country during the Tang Dynasty. This shows that this pagoda plays an important role in the history of pagoda construction in my country.
