Hello subject,
Chengde
The most well-known attractions and the first choice for visiting are the “Summer Resort” and the “Eight Outer Temples”, which can be easily completed in just two days. The itinerary is: one day at the Summer Resort, one day at the Outer Eight Temples and Qingchui Peak. I will provide you with the specific tour route and tips below.
The first day, summer resort
The entire scenic area of the Summer Resort is very large. Unlike Jiangnan gardens, which use rockeries, water diversions, and potted plants to create landscaping, the Summer Resort encompasses the entire mountain, a section of the river, the entire beard, and the entire forest. Just imagine how big it would be. A whole day is enough, and there is no need to rush.
The Summer Resort is divided into four parts: the palace area, the lake area, the plain area, and the mountain area. The entire mountain resort has water in the southeast, mountains in the northwest, and plains in the northeast. It is the epitome of China’s natural landforms. The gardening of the villa is based on natural methods without any carving. More than 120 groups of buildings are integrated among the mountains, rivers and trees, forming a magnificent landscape that combines the beauty of the south and the beauty of the north, and combines the national scenic spots in one garden.
The general tour sequence is to enter from the main gate - Li Zhengmen, visit the palace area, then go to the right to visit the lake area, and then arrive at the plain area. After finishing the tour of the plain area, return to the palace area. On the left side of the palace area is the mountainous area. Well, after the mountain tour, the entire summer resort tour is over.
- Palace Area
The palace area is the main building complex of the summer resort, concentrated at the southern end of the resort. It is where the emperor handles government affairs in daily life and meets with important figures and holds ceremonies. Although this is the emperor’s summer palace, the architectural style is completely different from the Forbidden City in Beijing. The palaces in the Forbidden City are majestic and magnificent, but here they are simple and elegant, with simple wooden pillars and simple bases, low green bricks and gray tiles without any paintings, giving it a northern residential style.
- Lake area
After leaving the main palace museum, there is the lake area to the right and the mountainous area to the left. The villa is named after the mountain, but its beauty lies in the water. The lake area covers an area of 57 hectares, and now there are seven lakes and eight islands. The entire lake area is a clear water with scattered islands and beautiful scenery in the south of the Yangtze River. Because the lake area is connected by various small islands, there is no way to finish the tour. If you want to see every attraction, you will need to walk twice. Go north along Zhijing Yundi, and facing Jinshan Island across the lake on the right front. The stone island is surrounded by lake water, and its artistic conception is very similar to Jinshan Mountain in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province.
The most famous building in the Lake District is the Yanyu Tower. There are a lot of people coming to Yanyu Tower. After all, it is the filming location of Princess of My Fair Princess. They all come to check in. There are so many people.
- Plain area
The plain area can be used for scenic battery car tours. The plain area is mainly composed of Wanshuyuan and Shimadai.
Wanshuyuan has a flat terrain and lush forests, combining the Mongolian grassland scenery and the northeastern forest scenery. The horse-testing stall is located on the west side of Wanshu Garden, with green grass and winding roads. It was the place where the emperor of the Qing Dynasty selected horses before going to Mulan Paddock to hold the Autumn Festival Ceremony.
- Mountain area
The mountain is closed for fire prevention before June 1 every year, and it is selectively open to tourists during this period. Most tourists spend 50 yuan to buy tickets and travel by bus. You can also walk up the mountain. Before entering the mountain, you need to check the fire, register and you are good to go. The car ride up the mountain only stops three times, at three scenic spots, so it’s a quick tour.

The next day, the Eight Outer Temples and Qingchui Peak
First stop, Qingchui Peak
You can get up early and go to Qingchuifeng Forest Park to watch the sunrise. The cable car hasn’t opened yet, so you can only climb the mountain on foot. However, the mountain is not very high and you can climb to the top of the mountain in about half an hour. If you don’t want to watch the sunrise too early, then the first stop is Qingchui Peak. This kind of loop tour is the most convenient for visiting the main temples of the Outer Eight Temples.
Second stop, Pule Temple
Pule Temple is at the foot of Qingchui Peak, so you can visit it directly after visiting Qingchui Peak and descending the mountain.
Pule Temple, commonly known as the Garden Pavilion, is located on a hill about two kilometers east of the Summer Resort. It was built in the 31st year of Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty. It is another royal temple built by Emperor Qianlong after Puning Temple and Anyuan Temple. It faces east to west, with its central axis facing the summer resort, covering an area of 24,000 square meters. The architecture of Pule Temple is in the traditional “Jialan Qitang” style of Han temples in the first half, and in the Tibetan style in the second half. The main building in the temple, “Xuguang Pavilion”, imitates the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in the Temple of Heaven.
The third stop, Anyuan Temple
Anyuan Temple is not far from Puning Temple, a 5-minute drive.
Anyuan Temple, commonly known as Yili Temple and Jinding Temple, is located in
Chengde
On the hill east of the Wulie River in the city is a Gelug sect temple of Tibetan Buddhism. It is one of the “Eight Outer Temples” and was built in the 29th year of Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty. Because its shape imitates the Guerzha Temple on the banks of the Ili River in Xinjiang, it is also called the “Ili Temple”. Anyuan Temple is very small and can be visited in half an hour.
The fourth stop, Puning Temple and Pule Temple
