I don’t think there is any special preparation required, one day is enough. I just arrived at Huangguoshu last weekend. I originally planned to spend at least a day and a half, but I found out that I didn’t need it at all. I’ll tell you about my itinerary for your reference.
There are three independent scenic spots in Huangguoshu Scenic Area, connected by a guide car in the middle. There is currently no cable car in the park, and the glass escalator of Huangguoshu Waterfall is under repair, so you can hike the whole journey.

Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area
It’s not far from Doupotang Waterfall Scenic Area, but Huangguoshu Waterfall is closer. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes to walk, only 400 meters. I bought the tickets online first and can go there at early 7 o’clock

, because if you need to buy a ticket or get on the wrong bus, you need to wait until the bus opens at 8:00. If you buy a ticket in advance, you can directly swipe your ID card to enter the park around 7:30. It’s the off-season now, and the water is small, so there aren’t many people. We went to Huangguoshu Waterfall with only 6 of us. We took photos casually until we came out, and it took about 3 hours to play around in a circle. Go to the Water Curtain Cave first and then go around.
The second stop was Doupotang. I took the reverse bus and there were a lot of people around 11 o’clock. However, Doupotang was very small and we came out in half an o’clock. You don’t have to worry about the crowds to take a look at the waterfall. Try to go to the other side of the river as there are fewer people and the tour groups will return the same way. You can also walk back to the reverse train station on the other side of the river. Then we went directly to Tianxing Cave and spent the whole afternoon playing in Tianxing Cave. It took us 4 hours to get out.

Come out and visit the potted plant garden outside the waterfall scenic area.
At the entrance of Huangguoshu Waterfall, take a chariot to Doupotang
There are quite a lot of people at Doupotang Waterfall at 10 o’clock, but it is very small and half an hour is enough for a round trip.
There is no one on the other side of the river, so it is better to take pictures, but taking pictures of the waterfall is not as good as taking pictures of the observation deck with many people.
Tianxing Cave, there are all kinds of strange rocks in front of it, just take a walk
