Hello bee friends:
Maybe you read a travel guide, which said that you can stay at a farmhouse in the dam during a self-driving tour, and you don’t need to buy a ticket to see the fog.
As a local tourism practitioner who is often on the front line, I would like to explain a few points:
- Do I need to buy tickets for Xiaodongjiang?
I can tell you for sure that you must buy tickets. No matter you live inside the Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area or outside, as long as you go down the plank road and watch the fishermen casting their nets, you must buy one. I applied for an annual pass myself. If I go down the Xiaodongjiang plank road to take pictures of the fog that day, I have to go to the window to buy a temporary ticket for that day, and then drive in by myself.
- Questions about farmhouses in scenic spots
Since 2018, due to environmental issues, Xiaodongjiang Farmhouse has been shut down for rectification in the accommodation and catering industry, and has not yet opened. The underlying root cause is that due to serious fare evasion at the farmhouses near Xiaodongjiang Plank Road, the government lost a lot of tax revenue, and Xiaodongjiang Farmhouse was finally closed due to environmental issues.
But why are some farmhouses still in business?
In fact, the scope of these farmhouses is not along the Xiaodongjiang River, but on the line from Wudong Village in the dam to Qingjiang Township, which is still quite far away from the Xiaodongjiang River. Even if you stay in these farmhouses, you still need to buy tickets to go down the Xiaodongjiang Plank Road to watch the fog and watch the fishermen casting their nets. However, for those who have purchased tickets, it only takes 4 to 6 minutes to get to the No. 2 Bridge from the tourist center at the gate of the scenic area by taking the scenic area shuttle bus (the ticket is a package ticket, which includes the round-trip shuttle bus fare). It takes at least ten minutes to drive from Wutong Village to Bridge No. 2. If it’s peak season or on weekends, this stretch of road will often be jammed with traffic because there are only two lanes, making the journey longer.
Third, why do fishermen have to go down the plank road to cast their nets?
The Xiaodongjiang Riverside Highway is in the Xiaodongjiang Canyon, and the Xiaodongjiang Hiking Plank Road is right next to the road. In the past, you could sneak onto the plank road in many places, but since 2018, the Guanwu Plank Road and the Yangtze River Highway have been separated by barbed wire, leaving only There are limited entrances to the plank road, and each intersection is guarded by tourism company personnel, which greatly curbs fare evasion. Maybe you can see part of the Xiaodongjiang River from some places on the highway, but firstly, the photo effect through the barbed wire fence is not satisfactory. Secondly, the places where you watch the fishermen casting their nets are blocked by trees. Even if you can see it vaguely, you can only watch the plum blossoms and stop at the sea.
- Do I have to buy tickets to see the fog in Xiaodongjiang River?
If you want to watch the fog on the plank road on the west bank of Xiaodongjiang River (Bridge 2 to Bridge 4), you must buy it, but if you want to watch the fog on the cycling track on the east bank of Xiaodongjiang River, you don’t need a ticket yet. For details, you can check one of my travel notes.
It needs to be explained that one is on the west coast and the other is on the east coast, one is paid and the other is free. The effect of fog viewing is still different. It depends on how you choose.
Fifth, the Dongjiang Lake scenic area is very large. In addition to Xiaodongjiang, there are also Dongjiang Lake Cruises, Toushua Island, Karst Cave, Bailang Lake Scenic Avenue (a great place to take wedding photos with free admission), Phoenix Island Huangcao Ancient Town, Jinniu Island landscape, and Dongjiang rafting (rafting is only available in summer, and it’s hard to get a ticket on weekends), etc.
