As long as you arrange your itinerary properly, you can take the elderly and children with you. Huangguoshu is a large scenic spot (tickets are 180 yuan, valid for two days, and you can only enter one scenic spot once). It includes three scenic spots: Doupo Pond, Great Waterfall, and Tianxing Bridge, each of which is independent. If you want to have plenty of time to visit, it is recommended to stay in the scenic spot. In one day, you can either visit three attractions in two days, or get up early and visit all three attractions in one day. I went to Huangguoshu in June this year. You can refer to my itinerary:
【About accommodation】
We arrived at Huangguoshu Hotel at 17:00 the day before. We passed Huangguoshu Town on the way. There were many restaurants. It is recommended that if you live in the scenic area, it is best to have your meals in the town. There are many small restaurants next to the scenic spot, but they are basically closed at this time, and the prices are not cheap. The restaurant in the hotel is more expensive, 78 for a Guizhou Spicy Chicken, but the service and environment are very good.
[About transportation within the scenic area]
Traffic control in the scenic area does not allow private cars to enter, so you can only choose buses and taxis. No matter which type of vehicle, the price is 50 per person. You can buy tickets and tickets for each attraction. Bus tickets are sold together with scenic spot tickets. The bus points for the three scenic spots are right at the entrance of the scenic area. Taxi tickets can be purchased from the dispatcher. Only the Doupotang bus stop is a little distance from the entrance of the scenic area. It is highly recommended to buy a taxi ticket. On the one hand, it saves time (you can basically come and go). On the other hand, it is more comfortable when there are fewer people. You can also listen to the driver talk about the local characteristics. Furthermore, taxis also have an additional stop at the passenger terminal.
Doupotang is relatively close to the waterfall. It only takes 5 minutes to drive there, and it takes 20 minutes to drive to Tianxing Bridge. The ticket can only be used once between two attractions.
Many people are concerned about whether they can drive by themselves in the scenic area. I saw a guide before that said you can drive in before 7:30; the hotel person and taxi driver A said no, “even if you drive in, you can’t walk on some roads”; taxi driver B said yes, “but You have to park your car far away, and it’s still a long way to the entrance of the scenic spot, and the parking fee is also very expensive.”; Rental Driver C said, “Anyone who has connections can come in, and whoever is happy to drive in can be let in.” We did see more than a dozen private cars in the scenic spot. Of course, the private car parking lot is not far from the scenic spot gate. It’s so close, but it’s unclear whether any private cars can drive in before traffic control is implemented. By the way, there are several cameras on the scenic road.
【About play order】
If you live outside the scenic area, you will usually follow the normal driving route to visit - Doupotang, Tianxing Bridge, and Great Falls, so there will be many people from beginning to end. So some people go to Tianxing Bridge or Waterfall first after getting on the bus, so as to avoid the crowds.
We chose a hotel next to the waterfall scenic spot. The most important thing is that we can avoid the peak crowds without getting up early, and the car can be parked in the hotel for free. Our play time starts from 8:00 (entering the scenic area gate) and ends at 16:00 (exiting the scenic area gate). The order is Great Falls (2 hours) - Doupotang (1 hour) - Tianxing Bridge (4 hours). Basically avoided the crowds.
【Big Waterfall】
Entering the scenic spot at 8:00, there is the bonsai garden first, with more than 3,000 pots, which are exquisitely manicured. The ones in the boutique garden are even more precious. There is also a small artificial lake with a fountain on it, which can be completed in 15 minutes.
After passing the bonsai garden, there is a large escalator. The staff said that tickets for the elevator can only be sold at 9:00, so we walked down the mountain. Fortunately, the way down the mountain was not steep at all, and many places were flat, so we didn’t feel tired. The whole walk down only took 20 minutes. The important thing is that you will pass three viewing platforms on the way down the mountain, where you can enjoy the waterfall from different angles, each with its own characteristics.
From the No. 3 viewing platform, you can look directly at the waterfall, and the scene you see is the most spectacular. The huge water flow was divided into four streams by the towering rock wall, like four giants standing up to support the misaligned river bed. The flying water splashed everywhere on the boulders, and then gathered together and rushed straight into the Rhinoceros Pond. The rising smoke wet our clothes in minutes. I put on my raincoat, put my camera inside, and just quietly admired this world-class waterfall. It was hard to imagine that the three-dimensional waterfall in front of me was 100 meters wide and 78 meters high.
Normally, when you go down to the No. 3 Observation Deck, you can turn left to go to Shuiliandong, the original shooting location of “Journey to the West”. You can go down to the bottom of the valley by turning around from Shuiliandong. Because it was closed, we had to skip the Shuilian Cave and go down to the bottom of the valley. However, looking up at the waterfall from any of the viewing points below (Rhinoceros Pond was also closed, so we didn’t go up) was not as spectacular as the No. 3 viewing platform.
Afterwards, we crossed the bridge to the same side of the waterfall and admired the waterfall for a while, then returned and continued towards the entrance of the escalator. The one-way fare is 30 yuan. What’s depressing is that you have to go up three more flights of stairs… The Huangguoshu Escalator consists of two long elevators. It is said to be the largest outdoor sightseeing escalator in Asia. It feels very much like the Crown Escalator in Chongqing, but with walls on both sides. Photos of Guizhou attractions are posted on it.
Therefore, it is recommended to hike down the mountain, so that you can enjoy the waterfall from different angles and go to the Shuiliandong Cave. Otherwise, it will be very tiring to take the elevator down to the bottom of the valley and then hike up the mountain to the Shuiliandong Cave. Just take the escalator when going up the mountain, otherwise it will be very tiring and a waste of time.
【Doupo Pond】
Coming out of the Great Falls Scenic Area, I saw a huge queue at the bus waiting point, so I was glad I chose a taxi. Our husband and I were the only ones who came and went. The master took us to Doupotang, which is very close and only takes 5 minutes.
Compared with the Great Falls, Doupotang is much inferior, with a height difference of only 21 meters, but it is 4 meters wider than the Great Falls. It is the widest waterfall among the Huangguoshu Waterfalls.
At 11:00, there were very few people in this scenic spot. After crossing the Stone Bridge to the other side, you can also see the wax figure of Zhu Bajie eating steamed buns, the sutra-drying stone, the nine-nine-eighty-one difficult stone carvings, etc.
After leaving the scenic spot, there is a street opposite selling souvenirs, fruits and simple meals, where you can have a quick lunch.
【Tianxingqiao】
The style of this scenic spot is completely different from the first two. The first two are absolutely majestic, while Tianxing Bridge is exquisite and beautiful. The scenery inside Tianxing Bridge is also different. The first half is the beautiful Xiaojiabiyu route, and the second half is the beautiful lady route. There is a one-way line inside, and you can basically see all the scenery if you follow the directions.
Arriving at the gate of the scenic spot at 13:00, there were a lot of people queuing up, mainly tour groups, and it took about 5 minutes to get in. As soon as you enter the door, you will see the Tianxing Bonsai Area. The main landscapes include “Several Steps”, a line of water, Side Rock, Mandarin Duck Vine, Beauty Ficus, Elephant Trunk Stone, various forms of life, etc. There are also some plants that can be seen growing on stones everywhere. cactus. Looking up are strange rocks and looking down are clear waters. It feels like the water of Guilin and the stone forest of Yunnan are fully integrated and displayed here.
The most interesting ones are the “Several Steps”. It is said that these stones are naturally formed, and some are processed and paved into roads, which are exposed out of the water for tourists to walk on. One stone is one step, and one step is one day. There are a total of 365 stones of different shapes. The stone meanders in the water, and it takes exactly one year to walk down it.
Following the crowd, you can walk to Tianxing Lake in about an hour, which is where the “shell” of Gao Laozhuang is located. Just take pictures of the exterior scenes. Don’t imagine that you can see the furnishings in the house, there are none!
This is the dividing line between group tours and self-guided tours. The team basically exited the scenic area from here, but the essence of Tianxing Bridge is in the Tianxing Cave Scenic Area and Water Stone Forest Area in the second half. There are very few people in this section and the scenery is great. After crossing the bridge and crossing the bridge, you will find Tianxing Cave. Such a large cave is actually free…
Among the colorful and ever-changing peaks and rocks, four large stone pillars over 20 meters high reach the top of the cave. There are numerous stone flowers on the pillars, like carved dragons and phoenixes. There are also piles of clusters of grape stones and scattered grape stones in the cave. The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea and the Miao Village Rice Terraces on Liushitanba… we spent more than half an hour just in the cave.
Just outside the exit is Maoshuitan, where the white dragon horse flew out from in “Journey to the West”.
Further ahead is the water stone forest area. Yinlian Chuitan Waterfall is so beautiful! Although it is not as high as Huangguoshu Waterfall and not as wide as Doupotang Waterfall, it is the only waterfall that can be viewed at an extremely close distance. The waterfall is only more than ten meters high, with a funnel-shaped top. The Sancha River water flows down along the boulders from all directions, like strips of silver falling into the deep pool. It should be regarded as the most beautiful waterfall among the Huangguoshu Waterfalls.
Because the water volume was too large, the Xingxia Waterfall attraction ahead was closed, so we continued to walk to the exit and spent 10 yuan to take the cable car, which can only seat two people and has no glass to block it. After getting off the cable car, a free battery car will take tourists to the exit of Gaolaozhuang, and then all tourists must walk for at least 10 minutes before returning to the main entrance of the scenic spot.
We got into a taxi and walked back, and saw another long line of people waiting for the bus. It takes 15 minutes to reach the Great Falls Scenic Area.
