Introduction

Xijiang Town is located in Lianshan City, Qiandongnan Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is one of the eight ancient towns in Guizhou Province and is known as the first Miao village in China. Xijiang is the transliteration of "Jidao" in Miao language, which means the place where the Xi branch of the Miao people lives. The residents here are all Miao people and call themselves "Ga Nao". When the Miao people mention Xijiang, they call it "Xijiang Dazhai" without respect. Xijiang has a long history of civilization and development and is an important birthplace of Miao culture. It is considered by Chinese and foreign anthropologists and folklorists to be a relatively complete place to preserve the Miao's "original ecological" culture and a living fossil for studying Miao history and culture.
